Tigo Ghana is investing resources worth millions of Ghana cedis into the educational sector which has been faced with myriad of challenges. Some of these challenges include lack of classroom blocks, teaching materials, books and adequate teachers. Individuals and benevolent organizations have done a lot to improve these challenges faced by the educational sector but more help is needed in the sector.
Tigo Ghana in partnership with Reach for Change, a non-profit organization is reaching out to you today to help you solve challenges you are facing as an entrepreneur with innovative digital solutions.
The Digital Change Makers, a new social entrepreneurship programme aimed at identifying and empowering young Ghanaians with innovative digital solutions to step forward and help solve some of Ghana’s most pressing needs.
The Tigo and Reach for Change Team have reached out to young social entrepreneurs through our BarCamp Ghana program and most of these people have successfully used these creative solutions acquired from Tigo Reach for Change to build their businesses and improve society. BarCamp is a user generated discussion forum organized nationwide, to discuss various developmental topics like; entrepreneurship, volunteerism, health and personal development among others.
Some winners of the Digital Change Makers include; Alice Mamaga Akosua Amoako and Solomon Avemegah, both final year students of the Ghana Telecom University, who together developed an app that supports children suffering from Autism. The Autism App is available on google play store and it provides communication skills for Autistic children and also teaches caregivers how to support them.
Another winner, Sheila Osei-Boakye, an educationist, has also digitised her training manual which she uses to do a trainer’s programme for teachers in basic schools. For her prize, she received a cheque for GH¢60,000 as seed capital to invest into her app. Sheila whose work is mostly in the Tema and Prampram areas participated in this year’s BarCamp Tema which was held at the Rotary Centre on 30th May, 2015. Be part of the Digital Change makers so we can together build an innovative environment and a better society.
Another successful venture from the Digital Changemaker is the Mobile Digital Library. The project is a partnership with Street Library Ghana, founded by its 2012 Changemaker, Hayford Siaw. The van has its interior beautifully fitted with tables and chairs and laptops. It also has additional tables and chairs and laptops which can be set up outside the van to cater for additional children. Hayford was previously travelling around rural Ghana with hard copy books in his mini-van to encourage children to read.
Winners of the Digital Change Makers receive funding grant of $20,000 (GHS60, 000) and the needed expert guidance and support to bring their ideas to life. They will also benefit from a network of existing social entrepreneurs who will guide them and share their expertise on running social change projects.
